J. Manuel Hernández-Hernández, PhD
President and Scientific Director
Co-Founder
Dr. J. Manuel Hernández-Hernández is a co-founder and Scientific Director of the non-for-profit Mexican Society of Epigenetics and Regenerative Medicine (SMEYMER). He holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and belongs to the CONACyT-National System of Investigators–SNI level II. Dr. Hernández serves as Professor at the Centre Research on Aging of CINVESTAV in Mexico City (hernandezlab.org).
In the past, Dr. Hernández held different academic positions at the Sprott Centre for Stem Cell Research in the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, at the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), the National Genomic Medicine Institute (INMEGEN) and the National Institutes of Health (ISSSTE) in Mexico City. Dr. Hernández also worked in the field of epigenetic regulation of skeletal muscle stem cells at the Cell and Developmental Biology Department of the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Oscar Hernández-Hernández, PhD
Co-Founder
Dr. Oscar Hernández-Hernández earned his Bachelor degree (QFB) at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He then pursued graduate studies at CINVESTAV-IPN where he obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Genetics and Molecular Biology. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Necker Hospital in Paris France, and at the Cell Biology Department at CINVESTAV-IPN. Dr. Hernández belongs to the CONACyT-National System of Investigators (SNI, level II) and currently serves as Researcher in Medical Sciences at the Laboratory of Genomic Medicine at National Institute of Rehabilitation in Mexico City. He is interested on the understanding of molecular and epigenetic mechanisms underlying neuromuscular and neurodegenerative diseases. He also teaches Genetics, Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering at Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM) in Mexico City.

Estela G. García-González, PhD
Co-Founder
Dr. Estela Guadalupe García-González holds a PhD (2016) in Biochemical Sciences from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and she also has a major background on Chemistry, Biology and Pharmacy (BUAP). Dr. García is an active member of the non-for-profit Mexican Society of Epigenetics and Regenerative Medicine (SMEYMER). She has expertise in the field of epigenetics, molecular biology and biochemistry of chromatin structure and its role on the regulation of gene regulatory pathways during development using chicken embryogenesis as model.

David Valle-García, PhD
Co-Founder
Dr. Valle-García holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences and a BSc degree in Genomic Sciences from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard Medical School in Boston MA., where he is trying to understand basic epigenetic mechanisms that control cell fate, DNA repair and cell transformation. Dr. Valle-Garcia has expertise in epigenetics, epigenomics, bioinformatics and molecular biology. Through the use of high-throughput technologies and unbiased genome-scale approaches he seeks to analyze the epigenome in complex biological contexts to understand the contribution of epigenetics to cell function and disease.

Carlos Palma-Flores, PhD
Co-Founder
Dr. Carlos Palma-Flores holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). During his PhD he investigated the cellular and molecular mechanisms of muscular relaxation. At the postdoctoral level, Dr. Palma employed unbiased high-throughput Genomic and Proteomic technologies to study the contribution of microRNAs to Breast Cancer development at the Autonomous University of Mexico City, Campus del Valle. He currently serves as Catedratic Researcher in the field of Functional Genomics of skeletal muscle regeneration and microRNA biology at the School of Medicine of the National Polytechnic Institute in Mexico City. He belongs to the CONACyT-National System of Investigators –SNI level I. Dr. Palma has expertise in molecular and genomic analysis of breast cancer and neuromuscular diseases as well as the study of cellular and molecular mechanisms of muscle regeneration.
